Lord Of The Rings Blu-Ray

If you thought that the scenery, special effects and audio in this film trilogy were breath-taking the first time around, wait until you see the Lord Of The Rings Blu-Ray edition. What already seemed astoundingly high quality on DVD has been unbelievably surpassed in Blu-Ray format. The wonderful landscapes are even more beautiful, the heroes and villains even more realistic; and the fantasy characters even more endearing or terrifying, as appropriate!

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Extended Edition on Blu-ray consists of an impressive 15 discs and includes all three of the movies based on J. R. R. Tolkien’s three volume book. These are subtitled The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003). It is not often that I see a movie of a book that lives up to my expectations. I’m often disappointed that my own imagination created a far more exciting and intricate visual world than can be captured on screen, but The Lord of the Rings Blu-ray set is a definite exception. The sympathetic treatment of the timeless original books is further enhanced by representations of the characters that are literally beyond even my wildest imaginings.

Middle Earth is perfectly portrayed as a place that looks like the world we humans inhabit, but this one is full of mythical creatures. Elijah Wood as the brave but fallible hobbit Frodo is supported by a fantastic cast. Ian McKellen is a wonderfully dignified Gandalf, while Andy Serkis makes an astoundingly repulsive Gollum. His repeated line “My precious” with a sideways scuttle has become part of our domestic lexicon- once heard, never forgotten! In my opinion, the Lord of the Rings Blu-ray trilogy contains Orlando Bloom’s strongest film role, with his portrayal of Legolas the Elf endearing him to me in a way that none of his other roles have. The star studded cast and literally breath-taking scenery and sets have earned The Lord of the Rings Trilogy a place in my top three.

The director, Peter Jackson, has pulled off an undeniably brilliant feat in this fantasy adventure trilogy, with one of the best books of all time now one of the best films of all time. The Lord Of The Rings Blu-Ray collection is an absolute must-have with all this and more made available through the huge amount of bonus material that this format provides.
